Prismatic Lasers

Prismatic Laser

"One beam is a weapon. A hundred beams are a solution."

— Orion Corporate engineering maxim

Overview

Prismatic Lasers are advanced energy weapons developed and manufactured exclusively by the Orion Corporate.

Unlike conventional lasers, which focus their energy into a single coherent beam, Prismatic Lasers divide their output into multiple synchronized beams capable of striking several nearby targets simultaneously. This unique capability allows a single weapon to engage formations, exploit battlefield congestion, and punish clustered opponents in ways conventional energy weapons cannot.

Though expensive and technically demanding to manufacture, Prismatic Lasers have become one of the defining symbols of Orion military technology.

Battlefield Role

Prismatic Lasers excel in situations where multiple enemy units operate in close proximity.

A successful hit can cause the weapon's energy discharge to arc or split into nearby targets, allowing Orion forces to inflict damage across entire formations rather than concentrating exclusively on a single opponent. This makes Prismatic-equipped mechs particularly effective against infantry concentrations, vehicle formations, aerospace swarms, and tightly coordinated mech units.

The weapon's primary drawback is efficiency. While devastating against grouped enemies, Prismatic Lasers often provide little advantage when facing isolated targets. Their complex focusing arrays also make them more expensive and difficult to maintain than conventional laser systems.

Corporate doctrine frequently emphasizes information superiority and battlefield control. Within this framework, Prismatic Lasers serve as force multipliers capable of exploiting opportunities identified through advanced sensors, communications networks, and tactical coordination systems.

Common Variants

History

Prismatic Lasers emerged from Orion Corporate research into advanced optical systems and battlefield energy distribution technologies.

Originally developed for industrial and scientific applications, early prototypes demonstrated an unexpected ability to distribute energy across multiple impact points without a proportional increase in reactor output. Corporate military researchers quickly recognized the potential battlefield applications of the technology and adapted the design for combat use.

The resulting weapons proved difficult for other powers to replicate. Manufacturing requires highly specialized optical components, precision alignment systems, and advanced materials that remain closely guarded Orion trade secrets.

Over time, Prismatic Lasers became one of the most recognizable products of Orion military engineering. Their distinctive multi-beam discharge patterns are instantly recognizable across the Core and are often viewed as symbols of the Corporate's technological sophistication.

Today, Prismatic Lasers remain among the most advanced energy weapons in widespread military service and are closely associated with Orion's reputation for innovation, research, and technical excellence.
