The Old Empire

The Empire That Was

The Old Empire (also sometimes refered to as the Golden Empire or just The Empire) was the largest human civilization ever known.

At its height, it ruled tens of thousands of worlds and maintained military forces beyond anything possessed by the modern Great Houses.

Many technologies used throughout the Core originate from Imperial infrastructure that can no longer be reproduced.

Modern civilization exists within the shadow of the Empire.

Nearly every government claims some degree of cultural or historical connection to it.

The Great Houses frequently describe themselves as the heirs of Imperial civilization.

Many citizens believe the Core has restored the prosperity and unity of the Empire.

Historians generally disagree.

The Core remains prosperous and powerful, but it governs only a fraction of the territory once administered by Imperial authorities.

The great Battlestars serving the Houses today are relics of Imperial industry.

No modern power possesses the capability to construct new vessels of comparable scale.
