Dropships
Dropships serve as the logistical backbone of modern mech warfare. Responsible for transporting military forces between orbital fleets and planetary surfaces, they range from small tactical transports carrying a handful of mechs to enormous mobile bases capable of deploying entire battalions.
Smaller dropships are commonly used by mercenary companies, planetary defense forces, and rapid-response military formations. These vessels typically transport four to twelve mechs alongside maintenance equipment, spare parts, and support personnel.
Larger military dropships may carry dozens of mechs, conventional vehicles, infantry formations, aerospace craft, and extensive repair facilities. The largest command vessels function as mobile headquarters capable of sustaining prolonged planetary campaigns without requiring permanent ground installations.
Many dropships are heavily armed. Defensive weapons, missile batteries, and point-defense systems are common, while dedicated assault dropships may provide fire support during planetary landings. Nevertheless, most commanders regard dropships primarily as strategic assets rather than frontline combat vessels.
Because mechs can be deployed directly from orbit and require comparatively little supporting infrastructure after landing, dropships have become one of the key technologies underpinning modern military doctrine throughout the Core.
