Industry

"Every mech, every starship, and every city begins as ore in the ground and steel in a factory."

— Core Infrastructure Authority

Overview

Industry forms the foundation of modern civilization throughout the Core.

From the construction of mechs and starships to the production of food, consumer goods, and advanced technologies, every aspect of life depends upon vast industrial networks spanning hundreds of worlds.

The Great Houses compete not only through military strength and political influence, but through their ability to manufacture, transport, and maintain the infrastructure upon which civilization depends.

Industrial Power and the Great Houses

Each of the Great Houses possesses a unique industrial identity shaped by its history, culture, and priorities.

Starcrest Protectorate

The Protectorate specializes in heavy manufacturing, military production, mining, and resource extraction.

Its factories are renowned for producing rugged equipment capable of operating in harsh conditions. Protectorate industries prioritize durability and reliability over elegance or efficiency.

Major industrial worlds include Khorhall, Smokefall, and Dunerift.

Helios Sovereignty

The Sovereignty focuses on high-value manufacturing, luxury goods, finance, and commercial infrastructure.

While it maintains substantial industrial capacity, many Sovereign industries emphasize quality, prestige, and profitability rather than raw production volume.

Major industrial worlds include Lumina, Haven, and Helix III.

Orion Corporate

The Orion Corporate is widely regarded as the technological leader of the Core.

Corporate industries focus on advanced manufacturing, electronics, aerospace systems, scientific equipment, and cutting-edge research.

Its products are often among the most sophisticated available in human space.

Major industrial worlds include Horizon's Reach, Veridian, and Aether VII.

Confederate Vanguard Union

The Union maintains one of the largest industrial bases in known space.

Its factories produce enormous quantities of military hardware, vehicles, weapons, ammunition, and infrastructure.

The Union's industrial philosophy emphasizes scale, standardization, and efficiency.

Major industrial worlds include Fortuna, Hammerfall, and Galvin's Forge.

Omnisphere Imperium

The Imperium balances industrial production with centuries of tradition and craftsmanship.

Many Imperial manufacturers combine modern production techniques with historical design philosophies, producing equipment known for quality and longevity.

Major industrial worlds include Nythoros, Kethos, and Morventhar.

Resource Extraction

Modern industry depends upon a constant flow of raw materials.

Throughout the Core, countless worlds specialize in:

  • mining
  • refining
  • gas extraction
  • agriculture
  • heavy industry

Many frontier colonies were originally established specifically to exploit valuable natural resources.

Control of these resources remains a major source of political and economic power.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing facilities range from small workshops to massive industrial arcologies spanning entire regions.

Products commonly manufactured throughout the Core include:

  • mechs
  • vehicles
  • spacecraft
  • weapons
  • communications equipment
  • consumer goods
  • industrial machinery

The largest facilities employ millions of workers and produce goods on a scale difficult for most citizens to comprehend.

Shipbuilding

Shipbuilding represents one of the most advanced industrial activities in human space.

Constructing modern starships requires:

  • advanced materials
  • precision manufacturing
  • sophisticated electronics
  • highly skilled labor

Only a limited number of worlds possess the infrastructure necessary to construct major warships.

Battlestars

Although modern civilizations continue to build starships, no known power possesses the industrial capability required to construct new Battlestars.

These immense vessels remain relics of the Golden Empire.

Many historians consider the inability to reproduce Battlestars one of the clearest examples of technological decline since the Imperial era.

Industrial Corporations

Much of the Core's manufacturing capacity is controlled by large corporations, industrial combines, and state-owned enterprises.

Many of these organizations possess histories spanning centuries.

Notable industrial organizations include:

  • Konnen Heavy Industries
  • Payne Dynamics
  • Orion Advanced Systems
  • Union Forgeworks
  • Imperial Arms Consortium

Industry and Warfare

Modern warfare depends upon industrial strength.

Military forces consume staggering quantities of:

  • fuel
  • ammunition
  • replacement parts
  • food
  • vehicles
  • communications equipment

As a result, industrial capacity is often considered just as important as military strength itself.

Many wars have ultimately been decided not on the battlefield, but in the factories that supplied it.

Legacy of the Golden Empire

Much of the Core's industrial infrastructure traces its origins to the Golden Empire.

Ancient shipyards, manufacturing complexes, transportation systems, and resource extraction facilities continue to serve as the foundation of modern civilization.

Although the Great Houses have maintained and expanded much of this infrastructure, many industrial systems remain only partially understood.

Some facilities continue operating centuries after their original construction.

Others have become the subject of ongoing archaeological and engineering study.

The Industrial Foundation

Citizens often celebrate soldiers, explorers, political leaders, and heroes.

Yet beneath every achievement lies a vast industrial network of workers, engineers, technicians, miners, farmers, and manufacturers.

Without them, modern civilization would simply cease to function.

The factories of the Core may not inspire the same admiration as its armies or Battlestars, but they remain the foundation upon which all other achievements rest.
